Mesoneros de Castilla, Ribera del Duero 2009

From one of the founding members of the Demoninacion de Origin Ribera del Duero in 1982, Ismael Arroyo has had winemaking in his family for over 400 years. His wines were some of the first to come to the US market from this region in the early nineties, along with the names of Alejandro Fernandez and Teofilo Reyes. The Mesoneros de Castilla is all tank fermented with no new wood so we are able to see the beautiful Tinto del Pais (Tempranillo) in its most pure form. 2009 was an exceptional vintage that only enhances the vibrancy and depth of this little gem. Bursting with red berry fruits the powerful palate shows excellent structure with a long pure finish. Wines from the Ribera del Duero mostly command very high prices, and rightfully so, but here we are able to enjoy an incredible wine from the region with an impeccable history for a song.
