JB Neufeld Dubrul Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2008, Washington

Winemaker notes,

This fruit comes from the lower 97' block of Dubrul Vineyard and was harvested on October 28, 2008. The fruit was destemmed and lightly crushed into small 1 ton fermentors. During fermentation, the wine was emitting aromas like no other cabernet I had ever worked with. It was a mixture of intense fruit, herbs and a little ‘Je ne sais quoi'. It was allowed to ferment to completion on the skins and was lightly pressed into 60% new French oak barrels and some stainless steel containers. Here it stayed for 17 months, this was to preserve the delicately complex aromatics the wine was displaying. The new oak barrels I used had a special toast which was aimed at contributing body and sweetness to the palate, without smothering that beautiful nose in oak.

This vineyard is located in a cooler area of the Yakima Valley than Red Mountain which, in this wine, manifests itself in the form of higher acidity and a greater degree of expression and dimension in the aromatics. It displays deep red and black fruits on the nose accompanied by sage and dried herbs with a slightly roasted, attractive hint. The palate is medium to full bodied with excellent balance and extension. I believe it's a wine that remains true to its origins.
