A new release today from a Tuscan winery that has really hit its stride for the past several vintages in seemingly every branch of creation they undertake. The most recent Carpineto Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Reserva from 2013 was very recently ranked at #11 on the 2018 Top 100 from the Wine Spectator and has since completely sold out. Their Chianti Classico Reserva program is another one of their strong points, garnering consistent high praise from far and wide while remaining an excellent value.

Really I thought I was done with offerings for the year, but this gem came out of nowhere and the momentum this winery has gained moved me to act sooner rather than later to afford you the opportunity to get some of this fantastic wine. If we receive your order today we can have the wine ready for you for the weekend. I suppose that makes this sort of a flash sale, doesn’t it?

Carpineto was co-founded in 1967 by wine visionaries Giovanni Carlo Sacchet and Antonio Mario Zaccheo.  The pair set out to produce a world-class red wine in Chianti Classico, a radical departure from typical standards in the era of straw-wrapped flasks. They believed that by applying cutting-edge technology and pushing the standard of quality, they could create great wines. And they have. Carpineto has grown to be a standard-bearing Tuscan producer with worldwide distribution and a reputation of quality, intensity, integrity and consistency.

Located in the picturesque olive and cypress-studded countryside between Florence and Siena, the vineyards dedicated to the production of this wine are located along the hillsides of the Chianti Classico region in the small town of Dudda near Greve in Chianti. Carpineto Chianti Classico Riserva is a textbook example of the category; rich and aromatic, boasting the smoky forest floor and black truffle aromas that live in concert with the black cherry and oak spice that comes with the extended aging utilized to produce a “riserva” wine. Full-bodied and velvety in texture, the finish is long and generous. Highly recommended.

“Smells like a little Cabernet Sauvignon enhancing the Sangiovese in this black currant— and cherry-flavored red (but it's actually Canaiolo, with a bit of Mammolo and Colorino). Cedar, thyme, iron and sanguine notes round out the palate as this cruises to a lingering aftertaste. Shows excellent structure and balance. Best from 2020 through 2035.”
