People can tell us anything they want in the pursuit of selling us whatever it is they have to sell, but the proof is always in the bottle. “O.K., let me taste it” says I. You may be surprised at how many occasions when said sample shows, the proof simply isn’t in said bottle. Well, this is an awesome example that sometimes the proof is in the bottle, and our never-ending search for the highest quality wines to present to you sometimes hits pay dirt.

Cabernet Franc is a black-skinned wine grape variety grown in many wine producing nations, a parent grape to Cabernet Sauvignon. Most famously known as the third grape of Bordeaux, it is a prominent red variety in the Loire Valley as well and can be found internationally in many of the world's top Bordeaux-inspired wines. New World examples tend toward greater ripeness and depth and can truly shine with very enticing aromas and flavors, shedding most nuances of bell pepper and overt herbaceousness.

Brothers Héctor and Pablo Durigutti are two of Argentina’s most sought after consulting enologists. Hector first became known for his work alongside Alberto Antonini as one of the co-founders of Altos Las Hormigas, the forward thinking project that placed Argentine Malbec on the international map in the late nineties. Pablo comes with his own star studded resume which includes a stint at Catena and connections with more old-vine landowners than anyone else in the region. This is the top Cabernet Franc bottling from the most critically acclaimed producers of Cabernet Franc in Mendoza.

In tasting this wine we find it is a deeply colored, openly fragrant and darkly fruited wine with luscious body and a long finish. Lovely elements of violet, crushed raspberry and milk chocolate intertwine on a rich palate. Not a bit weedy like some inexpensive Cabernet Franc are. This is shockingly good!

Winemaker Notes:

“Fragrant bouquet with floral notes, sweet spices and smoke -- and more black fruit (black cherry) than red fruit. This wine is intense, supple, dense and powerful.”

94 points, James Suckling:

“This is very floral and inviting on the nose with notes of rosemary, violets, lavender, citrus, orange peel and boysenberries, as well as lots of spicy undertones. Full-bodied and really seductive with tightly-wound, grainy tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, succulent finish.”
