We love this wine. It is absolutely delicious. Always impenetrably dark in color and deeply extracted, it is a rich, flavorful and exceptionally satisfying glass of wine. Aromas and flavors of red and blue fruits combine with elements of spice and toast and a long, meaty finish. The complexity and synergy of the blend makes you want to come back for another sip time after time, year after year. We’ve cornered the last few cases of the vintage for this offering, so don’t wait for this delicious thing to sell out, because it certainly will.

Founded in 2003, Cellers Can Blau is one of the oldest projects of the Gil Family Estates. Other wineries throughout different D.O.’s of Spain from them include the Juan Gil Monastrell from Jumilla, Laya and Atalaya, the wines of Volver and El Nido among others, all outstanding properties. The Gil Family Estates group strives to allow the wines they produce to be honest reflections of the soil and climate of their individual wineries, planting vineyards in the locations that best support the most profound expressions of each varietal. In the case of Can Blau, these are Syrah, Grenache, and Cariñena - Carignan.

The Carignan and Syrah dominate the blends from this winery, the Carignan being grown in clay soils, The Syrah on limestone rich soils, and the Grenache on soils of slate -llicorella, as is found to the north in Priorat where some of the world’s most profound Grenache wines are made. It is a truly profound achievement for this price level.

Winemaker notes:

"Wood smoke, spice box, incense, lavender, black cherry and plum aromas are followed by a mouth-filling, round, dense wine with outstanding grip and length. It over-delivers in a big way."

92 points, Vinous:

“Deep, lurid ruby. A perfumed, smoke-accented bouquet evokes fresh cherry, cassis and licorice, along with a building floral overtone. Lively and expansive on the palate, offering intense dark fruit and violet pastille flavors that are lifted by a core of juicy acidity. Youthfully taut tannins add shape to a very long, sweet finish that leaves smoky mineral and floral notes behind. (aged for a year in new and used French oak barrels)”
